Toyota Tsusho Injects Tk 141cr More into Bangladesh

Toyota Tsusho Corporation, the trading arm of the Japanese carmaker Toyota Group, is putting an additional Tk 141 crore, or 1,815 million yen, into its Bangladesh subsidiary to expand and strengthen its automotive business.

Capital Rises to Tk 604 Crore

In a stock exchange disclosure dated October 30, the company said the injection would lift the capital of Toyota Bangladesh Limited to Tk 604 crore, or 7,770 million yen. The filing says the extra funding is meant to further expand the company’s mobility business in Bangladesh.

The company did not share specific plans for the fresh funds. However, because the subsidiary’s capital will now exceed 10 per cent of Toyota Tsusho’s own capital, Toyota Bangladesh will become a specified subsidiary.

Early Financial Picture

Toyota Bangladesh was set up in August 2025 as the group’s base for growing its mobility business in the country. For the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, it reported net sales of Tk 7.5 crore and a loss of Tk 1.4 crore attributable to owners of the parent. Its total assets stood at around Tk 90 crore, with consolidated equity of Tk 65 crore.

Toyota Tsusho said the additional investment would have a negligible effect on its business performance and financial position for the fiscal year ending March 2027.

Part of a Wider Push

The announcement follows a series of signals about Toyota’s long-term plans here. Earlier this month, a delegation led by Toyota Tsusho Vice Chairman Ichiro Kashitani told Prime Minister Tarique Rahman that Toyota Bangladesh will begin work in 2027 on a hybrid electric vehicle manufacturing industry in an economic zone, with full-scale production targeted for 2029. The company also said it is expanding its distribution network to all divisional cities.

Separately, Toyota is set to invest nearly $40 million to build two centres for vehicle sales, servicing and spare parts in Dhaka and Chattogram, with construction expected to begin in November 2026.

Why It Matters

For a country that has long relied on local dealers and imported vehicles, a growing direct presence from one of the world’s biggest automotive groups could mean more jobs, technology transfer and new options for buyers. The latest capital injection is modest next to the larger plans discussed, but it shows the parent company is backing its Bangladesh arm with fresh funds.
