Bangladesh just wrote a new chapter in its Miss Universe history. Tangia Zaman Methila took the country further than it had ever gone before.
Methila secured a place in the Top 30 of the 74th Miss Universe pageant, held in Bangkok. The crown ultimately went to Mexico’s Fatima Bosch, who beat out more than 120 competitors from around the world. Speaking after the results were announced, Methila reflected on what the finish meant. “I tried to give my best. Since this is a competition, there will always be a final result. But I have created history for Bangladesh; our name has reached the top 30,” she said. Miss Universe Bangladesh’s official page called it a historic moment for the country, thanking supporters for backing her run.
A Crown Six Years In The Making
Methila’s path to Bangkok took a long detour. She first won Miss Universe Bangladesh back in 2020, but travel restrictions during the pandemic kept her from competing internationally that year, forcing her to withdraw entirely. She returned to the national stage and was re-crowned Miss Universe Bangladesh in September 2025, finally earning the chance to represent the country on the global stage five years later.
Climbing The People’s Choice Vote
Methila built momentum well before the final night. During the People’s Choice voting round, she rose from fifth place with around 73,000 votes to briefly hold the top spot, at one point overtaking contestants from the Philippines and Chile. She also posted strong standings across several other segments, ranking first in Best National Costume, second in Miss Congeniality and Best Evening Gown, and third in Best Skin.
A 19-Day Journey Through Thailand
The competition unfolded over 19 days, with contestants moving through camp sessions in Bangkok, Phuket, and Pattaya, alongside People’s Choice voting, a selection round, and multiple assessment stages. Methila drew international attention throughout the event for her wardrobe, styling, and jewellery choices, helping keep Bangladesh’s presence visible across the competition’s global coverage.

Where This Fits In Bangladesh’s Pageant History
Bangladesh only began competing at Miss Universe in 2019, and its journey has been a slow build. Shirin Akter Shila became the country’s first-ever titleholder that year. Methila’s Top 30 finish now stands as the country’s best result yet at the international level, a milestone that took three national titleholders and six years to reach.
Methila was clear that she sees her finish as a starting point, not an endpoint. “The journey begins with me. I hope more representatives from Bangladesh will take this forward,” she said. For a country still building its presence on the world pageant stage, Methila’s Top 30 result gives the next generation of contestants a genuine benchmark to chase, and proof that Bangladesh can compete deep into one of the world’s most watched competitions.
