Travellers heading to the beach have one more option. Bangladesh Railway has extended the Mohanagar Express from Dhaka-Chattogram all the way to Cox’s Bazar, making it the third pair of trains on the route. Railways Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam inaugurated the service at Kamalapur Railway Station on October 26.
Schedule
The train leaves Dhaka at 8:30 pm and reaches Cox’s Bazar at 6 am the next morning. On the way back, it departs Cox’s Bazar at 9 am and arrives in Dhaka at 6:30 pm. It does not run on Sundays.
Route and Stops
The 467.83-kilometre journey runs via Chattogram with stops at 12 stations, including Airport, Narsingdi, Bhairab Bazar, Ashuganj and Brahmanbaria. The train will not stop at Kumira. Passengers from stations along the Dhaka-Chattogram line can now travel directly to Cox’s Bazar.
More Seats
The extension adds capacity for 1,442 passengers per operating day, with 706 seats from Dhaka and 736 on the return trip. It joins the Cox’s Bazar Express and Parjatak Express.
The minister says about 80 locomotives and 200 new coaches are in the procurement pipeline, with more services promised as they arrive.
