A video in which a woman pleads with her father to take her home has gone viral in Bangladesh. It relates to the death of 24-year-old Jumratun Nessa Barsha at her husband’s home in Monipuripara, Tejgaon, Dhaka, around midnight on October 27, 2026.
The Final Call
Her family says Barsha called her parents shortly before midnight, crying, and asked them to bring her back to her parental home. They say she told them she feared she would be killed if she stayed. The call then cut off suddenly.
Family Arrives to an Ambulance
Her parents reached the Monipuripara residence around 12:30am. An ambulance was already outside. Her in-laws told the family that she had died by suicide. Doctors at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital declared her dead on arrival.
Case Filed, Husband Arrested
Barsha’s father, Sheikh Monowar Hossain, filed a murder case with Tejgaon Police Station, rejecting the suicide claim. Police arrested her husband, Nabid Hossain, at the hospital and sent him to court.
Police say Barsha was allegedly beaten repeatedly over dowry demands, and that they found injury marks on her body. The cause of death has not been formally established. Investigators are examining the video-call records as digital evidence.
Two Competing Accounts
The family’s allegation of murder and the in-laws’ claim of suicide are competing accounts, and neither is an established fact. The final findings will depend on the autopsy, forensic evidence and the investigation.
Dowry and Domestic Violence
The case has drawn fresh attention to dowry-related abuse, which is illegal in Bangladesh but still reported regularly. Families often say victims reach out for help only in their final hours.
