Dhaka, June 2026: India remains the top destination for Bangladeshi patients seeking medical care. The country offers advanced treatment in cardiology, oncology, orthopaedics and neurology. However, before you travel, patients need to get an Indian Medical Visa, and preparation is everything.
What is an Indian Medical Visa?
The MED visa is issued to a foreign national seeking medical treatment in a hospital recognised by the Government of India. A tourist visa allows a longer initial stay. Medical Attendant Visa (MED-X) – allows two family members to travel with the patient.
Documents Required
- Valid passport with at least 6 months’ validity
- Application form from indianvisaonline.gov.in – Filled
- Recent passport-sized photographs
- A letter of confirmation from a recognised Indian hospital confirming the diagnosis and duration of treatment
- Medical records or referral letter from a local Bangladeshi doctor, Bank statements for the past three to six months
- Proof of accommodation and travel itinerary
- Attendants must also present proof of relationship,p such as a marriage or birthcertificatee
How to Apply
Visit the Indian Visa Online portal and choose “Medical” from the visa category. Submit all required documents, pay the applicable fee and book a biometric appointment at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka or Assistant High Commission in Chittagong or Sylhet.
How to Get Your Appointment Fast
If your hospital is an approved facility, you can apply through the e-MedVisa portal. Qualifying patients are usually approved within two to three business days, no personal interview required. In time-sensitive medical cases, please contact the High Commission with your hospital confirmation letter, as priority may be given to such cases in the event of an emergency. Apply 4-6 weeks in advance to avoid delays during busy periods.
Processing Time and Length of Stay
The standard processing time is five to seven working days from the date of your biometric appointment. The initial visa is usually for 60 days and can be extended by the FRRO in India if treatment continues.
