12 Bangladeshi pilgrims have died in Saudi Arabia during Hajj 2026, making the Hajj pilgrimage heartbreaking for several families in Bangladesh. Most of the dead were elderly and suffered from age-related illnesses or health complications, officials said. The deaths have again highlighted the physically demanding nature of the pilgrimage, especially for the elderly.
Most Deaths Reported in Mecca
Latest reports say 10 pilgrims died in Makkah and two in Madinah. The victims were 10 men and two women. Meanwhile, some 36 Bangladeshi pilgrims are receiving treatment in Saudi hospitals for various health complications arising out of heat, exhaustion and physical strain.
Extreme heat and physical pressure are real concerns
Hajj is one of the biggest religious gatherings in the world, with millions of Muslims converging on Saudi Arabia annually. The pilgrimage can be difficult, especially for elderly pilgrims, with long walks, overcrowding and extreme temperatures.
Temperatures have again been high this year, and Saudi health officials have urged pilgrims to drink plenty of fluids, avoid long periods of sun exposure and seek immediate medical help if they feel weak or unwell.
