The government’s decision to raise the amount paid for bus fare in Bangladesh was a result of discussions with the different groups mentioned above about an increase greater than 11 paisa per km, but ultimately determined to raise the fare by 11 paisa per km in order to have less stress placed on individuals who travel by bus on a daily basis.

Why did the fare go up

The rise in diesel prices is the main reason for this move. Sheikh Rabiul Alam says that the government tried to keep fuel prices stable for as long as possible, even though there were pressures from around the world. In the end, diesel prices had to go up by about Tk15 per litre, which had a direct effect on the cost of transportation.

What This Means for People Who Commute

People who commute every day in cities like Dhaka and Chattogram may not notice a big difference right away, but it will add up over time.

There won’t be much difference for people who only travel short distances because the minimum fare hasn’t changed.

There are no changes to train or launch fares at this time. The government has made it clear that they don’t plan to raise the cost of rail or water transport right now. They only want to focus on road transport.
