Bangladesh, Dhaka and Rajshahi, has seen soaring temperatures due to a current heat wave that has been affecting people’s lives. Those who have been affected have had to endure high levels of humidity and have had no immediate relief from the unbearable humidity and extreme heat.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has predicted that a mild heat wave will persist in Dhaka and Rajshahi and throughout the western and central parts of Bangladesh, with daily life being interrupted as a result of excessively high temperatures and unusually high humidity levels.

Rain is forecasted, which could provide some respite from the heat wave, but likely only in small areas of Dhaka and Rajshahi. According to the Meteorological Department, if rain falls, it would be hit or miss because of isolated showers. Showers are forecasted to be only isolated, scattered showers that will only last for a short time.

Shockingly, if rain does occur, it may cause an increase in humidity and make conditions feel worse after it passes.

Where Is Rain More Likely?

Mymensingh and Sylhet are predicted to get more frequent precipitation than other regions like Rajshahi and Dhaka, which will see only sporadic showers.

Some parts of the country may have gusty winds and small hailstorms; this will provide temporary relief to those affected. However, for most residents of Dhaka and Rajshahi, rainfall is unlikely to be a consistent occurrence.

Temperature Trends: Heat likely to continue increasing

There will also likely be no decrease in heatwave conditions for several more days in Districts such as Pabna and Jashore.

Recent forecasts indicate that the maximum temperature may increase slightly over the next several days; depending on how much rain falls during the next five days, it may be possible for maximum temperatures to increase even more.

Current temperatures in Dhaka (4:00 am) and Rajshahi(4:00 am) are as follows:

  • Rajshahi: 94 to 108 degrees F (34 to 42 degrees C) this month
  • Dhaka: 99 degrees F (37 degrees C), daily high

These extreme conditions create a higher risk for dehydration and heat exhaustion, especially among those who work outdoors and those most vulnerable to high temperatures.

What to Expect Next

According to the current forecast for Dhaka and Rajshahi from Wednesday, April 22, there is a good chance that rainfall will continue to decrease after this date, resulting in dry and hot conditions.

In other words, you may get a few drops of refreshing water at your doorstep tonight, but they will not significantly alleviate this heatwave! It also appears this trend of high temperatures will last for some time.

Summary

The heatwave affecting the Dhaka and Rajshahi areas should persist at least until April 20, 2026. While there is a chance of a little rain today, it is not likely that you will see much relief, especially with the continued rise in temperature and the ongoing dry weather.
