How to Work Out Your Bill Online
Step 1: Determine Your Electricity Usage
Check your most recent meter reading or previous electricity bill to see how many units (kWh) you used during the month.
Step 2: Find Out Your Slab of Consumption
Under the new BERC structure, match your total units consumed with the relevant tariff slab.
Step 3: Multiply Units by the Rate That Applies
For a rough idea, just multiply your units used by the unit tariff you have.
Sample:
If your house used 250 units:
- 75 units x Tk 6.18 first
- Next 125 Units @ Tk 8.50
- Balance 50 units Tk 9.10
Add the amounts together to estimate your energy charge before VAT and other applicable charges.
Electricity Bill = Units Simple Formula for Quick Estimation Consumed} \times \text{Tariff Rate}
For example, with the average national tariff:
- Tk 10.63 x 250 units = Tk 2,657.50
This is an estimate and will vary from the final bill as residential tariffs are slab-based.
How Much More Will Consumers Have To Pay?
A household consuming 300 units a month may witness a big jump over previous bills because of the higher slab rates. The impact of tariff adjustment is expected to be the greatest on higher-consuming households, especially households consuming more than 400 units.
