A gruesome murder has shaken Gangarampur town in West Bengal’s South Dinajpur district. A former government bus conductor allegedly killed his wife and was found sitting inside a local temple with her severed head on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
What Happened in Narayanpur
People gathering flowers for morning prayers noticed the man sitting on the temple floor with both hands raised, as if meditating beside the head. Fresh blood was still dripping. The accused, Rintu Ghosh, had earlier worked as a conductor with the North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC). His wife has been identified as Seema Sarkar Ghosh.
He reportedly walked around the neighbourhood for a short time holding the head and a sharp weapon before police arrested him. Some reports say he had also taken his two minor sons to the temple, but locals took the children away.
What the Accused Said
Reports quote Ghosh as saying he once did work for the government but lost his job and was given no chance. Another report carries a remark in which he described himself as a psycho, though police have not confirmed his state of mind.
Police Action and Public Shock
South Dinajpur Superintendent of Police Abhishek Gupta confirmed that a man has been arrested for the murder of his wife. The arrest was made on Wednesday itself by Gangarampur Police. Panic spread across Narayanpur as news of the incident travelled.
The exact motive has not been made public. Police have taken him into custody and further details are expected as the investigation moves forward.
Domestic Violence Concerns
Cases of extreme violence within families often leave neighbours and children with lasting trauma. The two young sons, who were reportedly taken to the temple, will now need care and support.
Warning signs such as threats, sudden anger or a major change in behaviour should never be ignored, and neighbours or relatives should alert local police or a helpline early. Anyone facing abuse at home can call the Women Helpline on 181 or the emergency number 112 in India.
