With Eid-ul-Azha 2026 approaching, millions across the Muslim world are counting down to the Feast of Sacrifice. The big question on everyone’s mind: Is a 3-day break enough for this most important Islamic festival? The answer depends on which country you’re in—and you might be surprised to learn that Bangladesh actually offers much longer holidays than just 3 days, while other countries celebrate festivals with even longer breaks.
Eid-ul-Azha 2026 Date & Countdown
Eid al-Adha (Bakrid) 2026 is expected to fall on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 (10 Dhul Hijjah) in Saudi Arabia, depending on moon sighting. The Day of Arafah will be Tuesday, May 26, 2026. As of today (May 20, 2026), you have 7-8 days until Eid al-Adha begins.

Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed noted that Bangladesh’s 10-day holiday is actually favourable compared to some international standards, but other nations celebrate festivals with even longer breaks:
Eid al-Adha is a major celebration in the Muslim world and is celebrated by Muslims in many parts of the world, including Pakistan. For Muslims, this is a major holiday commemorating the Prophet Ibrahim, who is more commonly known as Abraham in the Bible. During Eid al-Adha, we also have our own Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca.
Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States get about 4 to 5 official days of holiday for Eid al-Adha. However, the journey to Mecca for Hajj is regarded as a very religiously significant event.
Three-day holidays?
A 3-day break for Eid-ul-Azha is still enough for everyone in Bangladesh, particularly when you consider that we offer an additional 7 days of banking holidays and 10 days of vacation for government employees. Internationally, we see that there are countries such as Nepal that offer 30 days’ worth of vacation for Durga Puja, and there are countries with 20-25 days of Christmas vacations. A multi-day Eid holiday in Bangladesh balances the importance of observing a religious holiday and an economy that is in constant operation during the holiday season.
Summary: Eid-ul-Azha 2026 falls on Wednesday, May 27, 2026 (10 Dhul Hijjah) in Saudi Arabia. While a 3-day break may feel short, Bangladesh actually offers 7-day bank holidays (May 25-31), and government employees get 10 days. Other countries celebrate festivals with even longer holidays—Nepal has 30 days for Durga Puja, and Christmas holidays span 20-25 days globally.
