Every year, thousands of Bangladeshi workers fly abroad looking for a better life for their families. And sadly, some of them never come home. When a migrant worker dies abroad, his family is left mourning and broken. For this, under the Probashi Kallyan Board (PKB), there is an emergency death compensation scheme to provide financial support to the family of the dead worker. Probashi Kallyan Board emergency death compensation: What to do to claim after the death of your loved one abroad
Probashi Kallyan Board – Who can avail?
Probashi Kallyan Board is a government body under the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment. The goal was to protect the rights and interests of migrant workers from Bangladesh and their families.
Emergency death compensation is paid to the immediate family of a registered migrant worker who is:
•Died While Working or Living Abroad were legally working in another country or had a valid work visa
•BMET (Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training) registered before departure
•Usually, the application is made by the spouse, the parents or the children of the deceased. The compensation amount may vary, but PKB currently offers up to BDT 3 lakh in emergency financial support, in addition to any insurance claim.
You will need to collect documents.
•Please have the following documents ready before visiting any office. If you lose one, it can delay your claim for days.
•Death certificate of the worker issued by the competent authority abroad (to be legalised)
•Death certificate in English or Bangla or certified translation thereof.
•Valid passport (or photocopy) of Worker BMET Registration Card/Smart Card
•National Identity Card (NID) of Applicant (Relation)
•Proof of relationship (marriage certificate, birth certificate or family register paper)
•Applicant’s bank account details for the payment transfer.
•A written application to Probashi Kallyan Board
In rural areas, where access to a bank is limited, they may also ask for payment through a mobile financial service such as bKash or Nagad, which the PKB has been trying to accommodate in recent years for ease of disbursement.
