Christensen, on September 16.

U.S. Status of FAA Safety Matters

Before starting direct flights to the USA, Bangladesh has to achieve Category 1 status of the International Civil Aviation Safety Oversight Audit Programme by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. “We need to have a Category 1 safety status from the FAA, which is mandatory to operate the proposed service,” Millat said. The U.S. ambassador to Bangladesh, Mr. Brent T. Christensen, has informed Bangladesh that Washington will provide cooperation for launching the service.

Expansion Plans in Aviation

The planned air route to New York is one of many efforts being taken by Bangladesh to improve its aviation sector and international connectivity. “We are working on an aviation master plan for the development of Bangladesh as a regional aviation hub,” Millat mentioned. Moreover, Bangladesh has recently opened a modern air traffic management system at the Shahjalal International Airport. In addition, there has been a proposal from the government to create an international airport in Bogura. Thus, the initiative of introducing the direct flight route between Dhaka and New York goes beyond a simple air route.
