The Prime Minister issued the directive on March 23, 2026, asking the concerned authorities to disburse these loans through the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment.   • Maximum Amount: Tk 10 lakh (1 million taka)
  • No Collateral Required: Students can get loans up to Tk 10 lakh for higher studies abroad without collateral.

The main purpose is to provide bank guarantees or solvency requirements for studying abroad.

Designated Bank: The Probashi Kallyan Bank (Expatriates’ Welfare Bank) has been designated as the body to disburse the funds.

Eligibility Requirements

Who may apply:

1. Student-applicants:

  • Any Bangladeshi students who are studying abroad.
  • There must be a letter of acceptance of admission from a recognised foreign university or educational institution.
  • Age: Generally 18-26 years (same as normal education loan criteria)
  • Excellent Academic Record in SSC/HSC/O-level /A-level or equivalent exams from well-recognised colleges/ universities

2. Parent/Guardian Co-Applicants:

  • Any Bangladeshi person whose children or dependents are studying abroad
  • Minimum monthly income: Tk 30000.
  • Age: 18 to 65 years old at loan maturity

Documents Required

Required Application Documents:

Student’s Valid Passport

Admission Offer Letter from the foreign university (Preferred) OR Any genuine document seeking proof of solvency from the educational institution

Photocopy of National ID Card (all verified applicants)

  • e-TIN Certificate Photocopy of the Main Applicant
  • Educational Certificates of Student (Attested by branch/sub-branch)
  • A recent standard-size passport photograph of all the applicants
  • Copy of utility bill showing residence address
  • Bank account details for loan repayment.

All the documents should be attested by the concerned Manager of the branch/sub-branch.

  • Step 1: Go to Probashi Kallyan Bank

Go to any Probashi Kallyan Bank branch, the government agency that manages this loan program.

  • Step 2: Complete the Application Form

Fill out the student loan application form. Include all required personal and academic details.

  • Step 3: Provide Required Documents

Provide all the above mandatory documents duly attested by the branch manager.

  • Step 4: Approval by the Minister

The Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment will make the process easier to ensure smooth support.

  • Step 5: Disbursal of Loan

  • Term of Repayment: Existing Education Loan Reference. The official announcement is yet to be made

Based on similar education loans from private banks (e.g. NBL Student Loan):

Minimum loan amount: Tk 500,000

  • Maximum loan Tk 10 crore (for private banks)
  • Repayment tenure: Maximum 1 year for normal loans (longer tenure for education loans)

  • Monthly Income Needed:

The monthly income of the Parent/Guardian co-applicant should be a minimum of Tk. 30,000.

This loan scheme has been incorporated in the framework of the Probashi Kallyan Foundation Act 2026, which the government has passed to support education abroad.
